Residual States of Form

The project begins with a series of shells profoundly transformed by time and the action of the sea. Little remains of their original appearance: what emerges are worn, hollowed structures, marked by erosion and fractures that have reshaped their forms.

Through photography, these elements are removed from a naturalistic reading and isolated from any context. The absence of references allows the focus to shift towards form and matter, moving the object beyond its original identity and towards a more open interpretation.

The work moves along two complementary directions: on the one hand, an exploration of matter, through irregular, porous and discontinuous surfaces; on the other, the revelation of form as the result of accumulated organic processes  traces of past ecosystems that have progressively carved into and reshaped the original structure.

Within this context, light intervenes selectively, directly affecting the perception of the object. It penetrates cavities, reveals layers and thicknesses, and interrupts the continuity of surfaces, exposing what would otherwise remain hidden. It does not clarify, but complicates the reading, amplifying ambiguity and opening up further possibilities of interpretation. What emerges is a material that yields, deforms and disintegrates, irrevocably altered by the passage of time.

The project focuses on transformation as a process: not on the original object itself, but on the traces that time and ecosystems have deposited into and inscribed upon the material, profoundly reshaping its structure.
